This book is meant to give a basic knowledge on the functioning of the eye and how and why some diseases affect the eye, unlike most of the text books for undergraduates which help them to get through the examinations only. This book aims to make the doctors at the primary care level capable of managing common ailments of the eye without referring them to an ophthalmologist. It contains lot of clinical photographs which will help in easy understanding of the diseases and also help in using the book as a reference in future clinical practice. The chapter ‘systemic diseases and the eye’ gives a clear description of how various systemic diseases involve the eye and help physicians in identifying and managing many systemic illnesses.
