This book, Cataract Surgery in Diseased Eyes, is a textbook for cataract surgery. Cataract surgery is one of the most commonly performed procedures in ophthalmic practice. The indication for performing this surgical procedure has in its present state of evolution, expanded to include compromised eyes with pre-existing co-morbid ocular conditions. An appropriately planned and meticulously executed surgical procedure taking into account all the expected complications is necessary to visually rehabilitate these patients. This book is meant to benefit both the aspiring students as well as the established practitioners as it covers in detail the pertinent aspects of evaluation, surgical techniques, complications and follow-up of these compromised eyes. Rather than focusing on intraoperative problems, such as zonular dialysis or tears of the anterior or posterior capsule, this textbook is organized around the classification of eyes with risk factors that are identified preoperatively. This unique approach is lacking from most other textbooks on surgical complications, and provides information on relatively neglected but clinically relevant topics such as pterygium, filtering blebs, uveitis, prior vitrectomy, and angle closure glaucoma. Besides outlining surgical strategies, each of these topics is addressed from both the pre and perioperative standpoint as well.
